Tell John Ashcroft: Keep Our Medical Records Private!
What will John Ashcroft do next?
U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft has subpoened hundreds of women's private medical records from at least seven hospitals in New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, and Ann Arbor. The Justice Department is tracking down, one by one, records of women who had abortions to see if the procedures used were "medically necessary."
Do you want John Ashcroft peeking at YOUR medical records?
Send a message to John Ashcroft today! Tell him that we will not stand for this kind of ultra-conservative government invasion in women's private medical decisions and doctors' ability to advise their patients properly.
Dear Attorney General Ashcroft:
I am outraged to hear that you have ordered hundreds of private medical records be turned over to the Justice Department. The government should not be involved in private medical decisions nor should the government be allowed to second-guess doctors' advice to their patients.
Your action amounts to a gross violation of privacy rights for all women involved, and harassment of doctors. Your actions could set a dangerous precedent and have a chilling effect on the privacy of all Americans’ medical records.
Please discontinue your campaign against women who exercise their constitutional right to choose and doctors who perform abortion.
Sincerely,
