Protect Libyan Civilians From Torture

In early June 29 detainees were held in Libya in small metal containers at a Khoms construction site. Only 10 survived the ordeal.
The detainees, comprised mainly of civilians, were abducted by pro-Gaddafi forces. The containers were cramped, the smaller of the two measuring 2 x 6 meters and holding 10 detainees. With temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius and a small water supply which quickly ran out, some victims were forced to consume their own bodily fluids in attempts to stay hydrated.
One victim recalls his shocking and sickening experience: "For hours we were screaming for help. It then became eerily quiet. I realised that I was the only one still conscious. I screamed: 'They have all died."
War crime is unacceptable, and this tragic story is no exception. Human rights abuses must be stopped in Libya. Ask Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to take action against Libya and demand humane treatment of their citizens.
It is sickening that 29 Libyans were help in small metal containers to the point of dehydration and death. This type of mistreatment must be stopped.
The treatment of these Libyan citizens, many of which were civilians, falls under the category of a war crime. Those involved in detaining these individuals should be fully prosecuted and punished.
Show Libya that such human rights violations will not be tolerated and urge the Libyan government to crack down on human rights abuses in its country.
