He Only Wanted to be Treated Like Any Other Boy

High school life can be hard enough — but for Florida student Drew Adams, it led to a federal lawsuit. Drew is a boy who happens to be transgender, and he was punished by his school district for using the boys' restroom.

Since Drew was a freshman, he had been using the bathroom that matched his gender identity. Finally, after years of feeling uncomfortable in his own skin, he was able to be himself!

But an anonymous complaint singled him out and Drew was told he couldn't use the boys' restroom anymore. Suddenly, Drew's school day wasn't about classes and friends anymore. It was about getting to the nearest restroom he was allowed to use.

At seventeen years old, Drew became the first student in the country to take the stand in a trial involving a transgender student's access to restrooms.

Lambda Legal sued in federal court and won on behalf of Drew's right to live as the boy he is. But his school board refused to back down. They appealed, and now Drew is back in court, fighting a second time for the right to be himself.
