Elect LGBT Candidates for Public Office in 2010

"This is the homosexual activist lobby taking it out on the rest of society and they are demanding affirmation for their lifestyle..."
That's a member of Congress -- Rep. Steve King (R-IA) -- talking about his opposition to ENDA (the Employment Non-Discrimination Act), which would end workplace discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. And what he said is a lie.
This isn't about anyone "demanding affirmation." Being fired for being gay is simply wrong. It's unfair, and un-American.
So how do we stop extremists like King who are so clearly out of touch with America? By electing more LGBT voices to sit beside people like him. We need more elected officials who will counter his lies with the truth about gay people. When we elect a qualified LGBT candidate to office, we put them in a position to change hearts, minds and the law.
Right now just three members of Congress are out as gay or lesbian, but there are more campaigning right now -- hundreds of openly LGBT candidates across the country need our support. It's high time our elected officials reflect what American voters truly believe about equality and fairness in the workplace and beyond.
SIGN THE PLEDGE to fight the lies and elect more qualified LGBT candidates:
I pledge to support candidates who will speak authentically and tell the truth about the importance of equal rights for all families--candidates who are dedicated to work towards an America that truly provides freedom, equality and opportunity for individuals and families.
Congress needs more LGBT members who will fight extremists like Steve King and his lies.
I pledge to support local, state and national LGBT candidates who have what it takes. Candidates like Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet, who is running to represent California's 45th Congressional District, or Providence Mayor David Cicilline, running for Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District.
It's time for us to win equality for all.
