Democrats recognize the Bill of Rights in its entirety, including the Second Amendment.
Mr. Chairman,
We, the signatories of this petition, all being Democrats, respectfully and firmly urge the Democratic National Committee and all Democratic candidates running for office to fully and vocally support the Second Amendment to the US Constitution as it has existed in that sacred document since its inception.
The Founding Fathers of our nation found that, along with freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of worship to name a few, the right to keep and bear arms is a right so critical to the health of a vibrant democracy that it should be guaranteed all citizens by its inclusion in the supreme law of the land.
Further, we, as Democrats who love our children, love our neighbors and work to protect life and justice, see clearly that the well-intentioned gun control laws of the recent past have done little to abate gun violence in our country, yet have served to lessen our freedom and restrict the choices we are allowed when deciding how to physically protect ourselves against those who may choose to harm us.
For these reasons, Mr. Chairman, we are proud Democrats who are proud to support the whole US Constitution, including its Second Amendment. We call upon you to urge all other Democrats to do the same.
