Pass the Toxic Free Kids Act in North Carolina

North Carolina lawmakers have an opportunity to protect our children and families from toxic chemicals. A bi-partisan team of legislators in North Carolina's General Assembly have introduced House Bill 848 -- Toxic Free Kids Act of 2013 -- which would take a common sense approach to make sure products are safe before they reach our homes.

Only a fraction of more than 80,000 chemicals in the marketplace have ever been tested for health and safety. If passed, the Toxic Free Kids Act would ensure that all manufacturers that use toxic chemicals in children's products disclose the presence of these chemicals. The bill would also require that manufacturers phase out the use of three of the nastiest toxics used in everyday children's products like: Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, and Tris flame retardants.

Passing the Toxic Free Kids Act is a vital step in protecting our families from devastating childhood conditions like cancer, autism and asthma. It’s time North Carolina joined the movement.
