Recognition to veterans who earned the Air Medal while in combat operations by issuing a California License Plate with the Air Medal displayed

The California Department of Motor Vehicles has allowed the issue of distinguished plates for veterans who are well deserving of a license plate that displays their association with a unit or high level award. This has been accomplished through CALVET and is a great program for veterans. Other states have recognized the Air Medal as such an award that many California veterans have been awarded for combat missions, special operations and combat search and rescue missions while in aerial flight. This is a unique skill set and many have risked their lives to receive this award while serving with combat units. Although rare, the Air Medal is also awarded to aviators in response to assist in natural disaster sites and rescuing stranded and isolated citizens of this great State of California.
