BFF: Biogas - Fuel for the Future

If we use sewage as an alternative energy source, then we can eliminate our foreign oil dependence and help keep our waters clean. We should care about this issue because our oceans, rivers, ponds, lakes, seas, bays, and all other water areas are becoming our junkyard for of our refuse. The waters we see around us are not sparkling blue anymore. In the year 2000, 2582 water pollution incidents were reported. On average, Environment and Heritage Service investigates 7 reports of water pollution every day.  Twenty-eight percent of these incidents are sewage and water dumpings. Right now, the city of Flint, Michigan and the local Kettering University have teamed up with Swedish Biogas International to produce biogas from sewage for the city's bus system. This biogas can then be used to fuel natural gas vehicles or to produce electricity and heat. Please sign my petition to start using sewage as fuel in the form of biogas by creating a biogas plant here in Virginia that will the converting (from sewage to biogas). Once I have all of the signatures, I will contact our senators and give them this petition so that a plant can be started. The sewage that we could be using to fuel our cars and our homes is being put into landfills where, when we run out of space, we will have to cut down more trees. To me, that is very sad because we have an opportunity to save trees and we aren't taking it. What an average person flushes down the toilet each year creates enough biogas to drive 120 kilometers, or 75 miles.
