Youth for the U.S. Department of Peace

Peace as we see it means the ending of gang violence, rapes, hate crimes and school drop out rates just to name a few meanings.  Please sign this petition so that members of congress who are not yet supporting the H.R. 808 Bill to have a U.S. Department of Peace can hear the youth plead for them to support it.

This is not a movement against the military or conflict; instead it is a movement to help this country of ours deal with the root causes that start violence in the first place.  This is support for all the grassroots work that has been done to help end gang violence, hate crimes, rapes and school drop out rates just to name a few.  WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

We the undersigned,

As a young voice of this great country the news about the rise in gang membership, rapes, hate crimes and violence in general has truly shaken me.  I am tired of seeing, hearing, and experiencing violence no matter where I find myself.  I am no longer content to sit around with my head buried in the sand, remaining ignorant about all the suffering people are going through in my own nation.  Because of this I want to support a movement that will reduce gang violence, hate crimes, school drop out rates and will utilize non-violent solutions to our existing problems.  I have found this movement and it goes by the name of The Peace Alliance.

In this country there are many organizations that are working to reduce violence, but the majority are severely financially unstable and therefore their work is hardly noticed nationwide.  It is the Peace Alliance that has offered an umbrella under which all of these organizations can unite, revolutionized ideas and create a strong internal network for easier communication and resource building.  It is therefore my obligation as a young voice in this country to make sure that the Peace Alliance gets noticed, receives many volunteers but most importantly is taken seriously by the greatly influential figures such as yourself.

This is why I am writing to tell you that the word Peace, now more than ever, means something so crucial for our country; it means letting go of individualistic pride or fear and shaking that shortsightedness that has plagued our politics for too long.  Peace now means the ability for humanity to reconnect and put into action all the possibilities for making this a better world.  Peace is equally deserved by all, by religious people, black people and white people, citizens of this country and aliens; peace is for all those human beings who do not want to go through or see anyone else go through what a rape survivor, gang member, high school drop out, or school bully has endured.

In addition, please understand that the U.S. Department of Peace is not against the military; as a matter of fact it is not against conflict.  The U.S. Department of Peace will create a new way for this country to solve the problems that are killing our children, causing hate between citizens and making neighborhoods unsafe for children to grow in. I am writing to encourage you, the person I have elected to represent my interests, to support the larger peace movement.  I do not believe that any person can honestly say that they do not support peace. I ask you to look back to your life, or a current situation in which you experienced violence or even the need to resolve something without the use of violence, and understand the importance of the creation of a United Sates Department of Peace.  However, if you have never experienced true hate or lost someone because of violence I ask you to put yourself into the shoes of the millions who have and imagine what the establishment of the United Sates Department of Peace would do for a survivor of violence.  That violence only perpetrates more violence is more than just an age-old adage.

Please join us in the support of the establishment of a United States Department of Peace and add your name to the list of those who chose to stand up rather than see their fellow citizens suffer.  Non-violence is the new way to bring freedom, prosperity and justice to this country, and we have everything to lose by ignoring it.

Thank you very much for your time!
