The San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) is currently considering closing Tafolla Middle School in order for Lanier HS (across the street) to have a 9th grade annex.
Tafolla MS is currently the SAISD largest middle school with an enrollment of approximately 980 students. It also houses one of two multi-lingual middle school magnets. Students have the opportunity to learn Japanese, Russian, German, Spanish, or French here. This multi-lingual program has been in existence since 1981. In fact, the Mayor of San Antonio, Julian Castro & his twin brother Joaquin, a Tx House Representative, both attended Tafolla MS.
The school district envisions middle schools with enrollments of between 900-1100 students. They also envision offering programs that will increase the success of students as they mature. Isn't this what Tafolla MS is already?
If the district moves ahead with displacing nearly 1,000 students for only a few hundred (at most) Lanier freshman this action totally flies in the face of the district's argument in favor of restructuring. A Lanier annex would be the definition of underutilization of a campus.
Please sign this petition and tell the SAISD Board of Trustees that Tafolla Middle School IS the school they envision for the future. SAVE TAFOLLA MS!

http://apps.facebook.com/causes/372719/59496139?m=e56504edWe the undersigned respectfully request that you reconsider the recommendation to close Tafolla MS only to utilize it as a 9th grade annex.
Tafolla Middle School IS the middle school the SAISD envisions in the future; from its current enrollment of nearly 1,000 students to its successful multi-lingual magnet program.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
