Utah Cigarette Tax increase to $1.30

Each day 1,500 youth under the age of 18 become regular smokers, that's 545,000 a year!  With Utah's smoking rates on the rise and at a stalemate nationally, it is important for us to stop the Tobaccco Industry from addicting more youth smokers.
Tobacco tax increases have consistently shown the ability to both decrease tobacco use rates as well as hinder youth initiation.  Utah's tobacco tax is on the lower end nation-wide with a recent comparison ranking Utah 34th according to tobacco tax rate.  Utah's last tobacco tax increase was in 2002 when it was changed from $.51 to $.69. The proposed tobacco tax increase is $1.30 on a pack of cigarettes.  We are asking you to support this action in an effort protect Utah Youth
