In June of 2011 the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant sustained a fire in an electrical breaker that had been replaced 18 months earlier. The back up system was also affected through a chain of mishaps. The electrical system is responsible for cooling the spent radioactive fuel. The Nuclear Regulatory Commisssion has since declared that it posed a high safety risk. A manager delayed reporting it and other problems plagued the plant. Lack of flood, tornado and earthquake preparedness are still an issue. Let's switch to safer renewable energy such as wind and solar.
