Implement Safe Technology in Ashland Schools

Purpose: There is clear and strong evidence from numerous scientific studies that long-term exposure to wireless radiation increases the risk of serious adverse health effects. Children are especially vulnerable. Our goal is to provide safe and healthy learning environments for our children, teachers and staff by reducing/eliminating wireless radiation exposure in Ashland Schools.

For the start of the 2019/20 school year:
Adopt protective measures by implementing the following Best Practices for Safer Technology.

1) Keep Wi-fi Routers/Access Points in classrooms and common areas (except for Staff Office) turned OFF as default at all times - unless in use.

2) Minimize use of internet-based services during class, and instead use applications and content that teachers have pre-downloaded onto devices outside of school hours.

3) Hardwire projector and teacher's computer in every classroom.

4) Require students to operate laptops and tablets on desks/tables (not on laps) and only on battery mode (not when plugged into an electrical outlet).

5) Instruct students to keep cell phones and personal digital devices powered off, or on airport mode, and stored during school hours.

For the start of the 2020/21 school year:
Replace Wi-fi systems with hardwired/corded internet connection for all staff and student devices (computers, projectors, boards, printers, etc.) Hardwired connections are not just safer but 100 times faster. They are more economical in the long run, more reliable and less vulnerable to security and privacy problems.*

Countries world-wide are taking strong action to reduce wireless radiation on children. In addition, most European countries have set RF exposure limits 100 to 10,000 times less than the USA.
