TEAR DOWN AND CLEAN UP THE MERCANTILE BUILDING

The Board of Supervisors for The County of San Luis Obispo need to "be here for us" and do something about the burnt Mercantile building -  tear it down and clean up the site. This building is an eyesore, dangerous, rat infested and is a reflection on the Santa Margarita core of town. It has been this way since the early morning hours of May 19, 2018. Circumstances of how and why this building burnt are still unclear.
This building is owned by a local Merchant. Many residents have tried to contact our County Supervisor, Debbie Arnold and the County Code Enforcement Officer. Their conclusion to this matter is that nothing can be done because there is no ordinance in place to enforce this incredibly unsafe situation.
From the front of the building, it is boarded up and you cannot see the destruction and the fire remnants. You may see this for yourself by looking through the boarded fence on the alley in back of the building. Additionally, the top left of the porch looks precarious and may be failing.
As citizens of Santa Margarita, we love our town. We are a tightly knit community who want the best for our town, families, neighbors and children. We believe that this building is dangerous and may obstruct future development that could add to our enjoyment, financial benefits, and beautification.
