We the 'Lunatic Fringe' of San Francisco, and on behalf of all SF Giants fans, demand that Peter Magowan give the General Manager, Brian Sabean, the money and power to get power hitting behind Barry Bonds in the lineup. It is only with a strong hitter that Barry Bonds will be able to fight the constant intentional walks, and be able to reach the milestone of 756 career home runs. Barry has also had a long, productive career, but is without a World Series ring. Obtaining a power hitter would help the lineup win games, and give Barry Bonds a stronger chance at winning the World Championship with the San Francisco Giants.

While the management's stance on this has been that getting a power hitter behind Bonds would not stop him from getting walked, it would certainly reduce the number of times he was intentionally walked, especially with runners on base.

If the addition of a power hitter behind Bonds who could make teams pay for intentionally walking Bonds only reduced the number of intentional walks by 1/3, this could still have a dramatic impact for the Giants. Based on Bonds' 2004 season stats, this would produce close to 80 additional at bats, which according to his batting average homerun frequency, and RBI stats for 2004 could have been an additional 28 Hits, 9 homeruns, and 22 RBIs. These numbers do not of course take into account the additional runs that would be scored and knocked in by the hitter behind Bonds, who would often be coming to the place with a runner in scoring postition.

Stop the true lunacy of having the best batter in Major League baseball, yet a team that does not succeed because Bonds gets stranded on first base so often. The Giants need a bat behind Bonds to really make teams pay for giving him a free base.
