A Commemorative Stamp for Jack Lemmon

This is a petition to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee of the U.S. Postal Service for a stamp commemorating the late Jack Lemmon.
Jack Lemmon (1925-2001) was often called America's Everyman. Over the course of a 50-plus year career he showed himself the master of every form, from broad comedy to tragic drama; from Billy Wilder to Eugene O'Neill. His portrayals exemplified the best aspects of the American character, and a few of the worst.

His Daphne in "Some Like it Hot" is the greatest comedy performance of the sound era, but his range was unparalleled. No other actor of his generation could have gone with such agility from "The Apartment" to "Days of Wine and Roses," or from "The War Between Men and Women" to "Save the Tiger."

Jack Lemmon was also a committed environmentalist and a man whose personal generosity is legendary in Hollywood.

This finest of all American actors more than deserves the honor of a commemorative stamp in his name and image.
