Oppose the Global Gag Rule!

Act Now and Save Women's Lives!
In poor, developing countries, complications of pregnancy, childbirth and unsafe abortion remain a leading cause of death and illness among women. More than 75,000 women die each year from complications of unsafe abortion.

Yet the Global Gag Rule prevents family planning organizations in other countries from providing vital, lifesaving services by denying resources to health care providers who counsel women on the full range of reproductive health options, lobby to make or keep abortion legal in their own country, or provide abortion services -- even if they pay for these services with non-US funds.

Consequently, women around the world pay the price. In Kenya, five family planning clinics had to shut down, and thousands of women are unable to access contraception, gynecologic and obstetric care, or even counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS.

    Dear President Bush,

    The Global Gag Rule prevents family planning organizations in other countries from providing vital health services to women. It denies resources to health care providers who offer abortion services even if they pay for these services with their own funds. It also denies resources to health care providers who counsel women on the full range of reproductive health options.

    Reversing the Global Gag Rule will lead to a decrease in abortions, enable more women around the world to access comprehensive medical care and enable women to better provide for their families.

    Women around the world are being punished for exercising their right to access reproductive health information and services. Please end the Global Gag Rule now and help save women’s lives.
