Malaria is one of the deadliest diseases in Africa, especially for young children. Every 60 seconds, a child dies from malaria, a disease spread by the bite of a mosquito.
It doesn't have to be that way. The truth is, Congress CAN help save children's lives from malaria. The U.S. has demonstrated critical leadership in the fight against malaria and it’s now more important than ever.
President Obama has requested $680 million for malaria prevention and eradication efforts through the President's Malaria Initiative and $1.65 billion through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the FY2014 budget. These two programs have proven themselves to be cost-effective solutions with proven results in the effort to save lives and win the fight against malaria.
Now is the time to weigh in and urge Congress to help protect millions of families from malaria by providing the resources for simple and effective malaria prevention tools like insecticide-treated bed nets.
It's time to make saving children's lives from malaria a real priority.
