save the forests and forest land of Sindh

Forest department of Sindh province of Pakistan has introduced YAK SAALA LEASE a permission for one year cropping on forest land to a group of land lords and friends of leadership of rulling party PPP under the names of poor women.these land lords has submitted applications to forest departmentand land has been leased out to them. this is a conspiracy against forest cover, forest land, local people and environment of globe.Sindh government in the continuation of this conspiracy has decided that forest would be leased out to these land lords on perminant basis after complition of possesion process under yak saal lease scheme. Khebrani and Raees Mureed forest rehabilited by IDO with the support of UNDP-GEF-SGP Pak and WWE Pak with the help of local people and was inaugurated by Ms Mikiko Tanaka deputy country director Pakistan has been first vicitim of this program because forest department has also leased out forest cover of Sindh. this is the only community forestry model of Pakistan. land lords along with private armed men occupied these forests and has established perminant bunkers to face local people and eco-guards of IDO. now they are destroying seeding broadcasted in recent floods and cutting the forest cover So the forest cover and forest cover of sindh and this model are under threst. let organization of conference know the situation and pakistan government would be pressurized through its representatives in conference.

Dear Sir/ Madam
Pakistan is signatory on various international agreements icluding MDG, and has agreed to raise forest cover to 6% to its total land by 2015. For this target it has needed more land for forests. but conspiracies like Yak Saala Lease are violation of these agreements. Forest department which ha splay role of coservating institution has proved itself in Sindh province the toolto serve wasted interests of land grabbers. It is also a obtacle to efforts of reforestation by NGOs and individuals.
Yak Saala lease id creation of this department to hand over entire forest land to selected land lords. Khebrani and Raees mureed riverine forests are community foresdtry model but destruction continue through yak saala lease program by influentials would be discouraging to those communities. Riverine forests rehabilitation is essential for mitigation of next coming disasters by floods in River Indus, and in flood water seeding was golden oppertunity to rehabilitate 617545 acres riverine forest in Sindh, despite doing this forest department has leased out forests for cropping. So I urge you to pressurize Pakistan government through all participants and representatives of Paskistan to withdraw Yak Saala Lease orders, secure Khebrani and Raees Mureede forests and formation forestry policy with the consultation of all stake holders.
