Ban Alabama Gillnets

Gillnetting is a business that allows the indiscrimate slaughter of untold species along the coast.  Alabama is the only state along the Gulf Coast that still allows this to happen.
The state of Alabama allows 100 gillnetters to patrol it's coast and reap the rewards.  Even while lowering the catch on spanish mackerel, the last year has led to a larger catch of other species.
Last year, the state Legislature gave the gillnetters a choice of freely giving up their licenses.  This didn't happen.  Instead, illegal gillnets were confiscated by the Marine Resourses Division with thousands of pounds of dead flounder, 50 redfish and numerous other species.
