Since December 19th 2010, the people of Belarus have suffered severe and sustained violations of their human rights and civil liberties, at the hands of Alexander Lukashenko, Europe's last dictator. This petition calls on those with the power to affect clear and immediate action to help the people of Belarus. Please sign your name to show that you believe, as we do, that change must happen now because no human should be without rights.
We the undersigned call on governments and leaders of the global community to publicly condemn the illegal and inhuman treatment of the political prisoners of Belarus. We demand that the Lukashenko regime conform immediately to international human rights standards. We demand said bodies acknowledge that the events of December 19th 2010 were an act of unlawful power seizure that requires immediate international judicial action, and further, we ask that criminal action is taken against Alexander Lukashenko and his associates for illegal acts against the citizens of Belarus. We ask all governmental bodies to refrain from using any presidential titles and to refer to Alexander Lukashenko by name only. We appeal to the international community to impose immediate and strict economic sanctions on the Lukashenko regime, and to continue to apply pressure for free and fair elections, that adhere to international standards, and are declared free and fair by recognised international monitors. Finally, we demand the immediate and unconditional release of all of Belarus' political prisoners.
