Help Add Oregon's Mount Hood to the National Park System
The centennial for the National Park Service is coming up in 2016. Help the National Park Service reach its goal of creating or expanding 100 national parks by 2016 by signing this petition to help protect Oregon's Mount Hood forever by adding it to the National Park System. Mount Hood is approximately 11, 249 ft tall, making it one of the tallest mountains in the state of Oregon, which of course is part of the North Cascades, one of the biggest and most beautiful mountain ranges in North America, and Mount Hood is part of it. There are 12 separate glaciers on the mountain, covering 80% of its area, making it an important spot for protecting glaciers. Glaciers all over the United States and Canade are quickly melting, and we need to protect areas with glaciers and try to stop global warming if we are to save them.
We the udersigned,
We wish to inform you about a special piece of land that we think should be protected forever by placing it under the protection of the National Park Service. Oregon's Mount Hood is one of the last great stratovolcanoes in the North Cascades and on the whole continent, making it very important geologically wise. We understand that you are fond of National Parks, and visit them on occasion. That is why we are coming to you for help. America has so much nature and so much beauty to show us that we must protect, and we wish to protect this beautiful piece of land. There are already ski resorts on the mountain, which wouldn't help the surrounding area very much, but it might help to make the area more popular to help create support for making it a National Park. Anything to help make it so would help, and the skiing could be regulated so it wouldn't harm the surrounding area as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and we hope you seriously think about creating a Mount Hood National Park.
