Like many triathletes, I have a dream %u2014 I want to go to The Show, aka, the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii - Oct. '09.
For those who don't already know, there are a few ways to get into the Championships: 1) Qualify by being fast; 2) win one of the lottery slots; 3) have an attractive story, and be selected as part of a marketing campaign by a sponsor; 4) buy a slot as part of a charity campaign (these tend to go for upwards of $30,000).
YES, I have entered the lottery for 2009!!
Other key races on my calendar for 2009 include Wildflower and Vineman 70.3.
ABOUT ME: '95 was the summer I found the sport, while I was coaching summer league swim team in Conroe, TX. Shortly after moving to LA in '97, I found the home of my heart with the LA Tri Club and our 1,600 members. I%u2019ve served as the Managing Director of LATC since '05.
This petition & website (liztokona.com) is a testament to how much I love this sport, the community, the camaraderie, and the journey to any finish line with all the ups-and-downs that come with it. I continue to respect this sport, and those who work and compete in it, more and more each day.
