RE-EXAMINE THE LDS CHURCH'S TAX EXEMPT STATUS

We the undersigned people demand a full investigation into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints tax-exempt status. The LDS church has contributed a significant amount of money and resources into campaigns promoting Proposition 8 in California. According to the IRC section 501(c)(3) no organization or church can qualify for tax exempt status if a substantial part of it's activities involve lobbing for influence on legislative issues. The LDS church has a long record of political interference mainly against the LGBT communities across the United States. The LDS church base in Utah has an enormous influence on the legislative body in this state. Mainly because most of the influential positions in Utah are held by active LDS members. If the LDS church insists on meddling into political affairs they should not be allowed to hold a tax exempt status. Just because they considered themselves a religion does not give them the right to throw the law in the trash.
