stop suicide: no one has to die

World wide there is a suicide attempt every 40 seconds.  There is a death every minute.  In the United States there is an attempt every minute and every 16 minutes someone dies by their own hand.  This is an unacceptable and tragic situation.  No one needs to die and each one of us can make a difference.
Suicide shows no respect of age, sex, wealth, race, national origin or economic standing.  It is an equal opportunity  destroyer.
WE call for:
Adequate mental health care for all people:  Make mental health a human right.
Public education about suicide: Everyone should know risk factors and basic ideas about how to get help for someone in danger.
Support for families affected by suicide:
Suicide prevention programs focused on high risk populations
Access to suicide prevention hotlines:  No one should die because they have no one to talk to.

WE pledge to do all we can to make each person in this society aware of this awful plague on our world and to let each one of our fellow citizens know that no matter how bad they feel they do not have to die- that they can reach out and find someone is there.
