The Illinois Veterans Leadership Program (IVLP) is a full service non-profit veterans organization with a operating office in Belleville. In addition, we offer outreach services to Scott AFB. The primary mission of the IVLP is to secure long-term employment for Illinois veterans. We achieve this goal by:
One-on-one career counseling and needs assessment
Resume writing service
Development of interviewing skills
Direct job search assistance and placement
Job placement and follow up
Assistance with State and Federal employment
Referrals for all other veteran issues
By helping veterans obtain long term employment, we are improving the economic growth and welfare in our communities as well as providing the veteran and his family with self-sufficiency as well as a safe and nurturing environment.
Last year the Illinois Veterans Leadership Program (IVLP) closed its office for 3 months due to budgetary problems with the state of Illinois. Even though we were shut down for 180 days the office has written more than 700 civilian and federal resumes in FY07. We have enrolled nearly 350 new clients and tracked the placement of 280 veterans. This is rather remarkable considering the office is only manned by 2 counselors.
Despite these accomplishments the future looks dim for the organization. We expect more budgetary problems in July 2008 and believe the office will be forced to close again. Based on these unfortunate facts, IVLP is requesting the support of our nations citizens.
