Mississippi, Don't Put Women Back in the Dark Ages!
The anti-choice lobby has a powerful new weapon in Mississippi's proposed "personhood" amendment. On November 8, Mississippi's law makers will vote whether to pass a state measure to give every embryo full legal rights at the moment of fertilization.
The amendment has a strong base of support among both Democrats and Republicans, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times. Advocates of the amendment say it will outlaw abortion even in cases of pregnancy resulting from rape and incest.
Similar amendments are on next year's dockets in Florida, South Dakota, and Ohio. Opponents of the amendment believe it may start an assault on Roe vs. Wade. Speak out against Mississippi's personhood amendment!
We the undersigned ask that you vote NO on the personhood amendment. Such legislation will undo decades of hard-won civil rights and send women back to the dark ages. Your amendment will, if carried, force victims of incest and rape to endure full-term pregnancies. It will also be prejudicial to teenagers and even children who sometimes become pregnant as a result of violence or poor parenting.
