Support Additional Tax on Cigarettes to Fund Cancer Research

An act in California called the California Proposition 29 or the Tobacco Tax for Cancer Research Act is calling for an additional tax on cigarettes. This act is going to be put before the voters on June 5, 2012 and asks California to increase the tax on cigarettes by $1.00 on every pack. The money collected will go to help fund cancer research, anti- smoking programs and law enforcement related to tobacco use.

California Proposition 29 is supported by many groups and organizations such as “Californians for a Cure”, which is headed by Lance Armstrong, the American Cancer Society, American Heart and Stroke Associations and many more. The only major opposition group seems to be companies and partners of Philip Morris USA which is a major tobacco manufacturer.

This is a very important cause and initiative as those who choose to increase their risks of cancer by smoking need to help contribute to finding a cure by supporting important cancer research. Please tell the government and people of California that you support this act by signing and sharing this petition.

We the undersigned sincerely and wholeheartedly support the California Proposition 29, also known as the Tobacco Tax for Cancer Research Act. This act is essential to creating much needed funding for cancer research. Those who choose to smoke should contribute to finding a cure as they are putting themselves and others at risk. We hope that this act passes and we ask that the government of California will do everything it can to support and promote this important act.

Thank you.
