As you may know, Mr. Bakr's contract was not renewed for the 2018-2019 school year. He is interested in remaining as Principal at RMHS. The initial Principal search yielded no results. The two viable candidates both withdrew their applications. The proposal by Dr. Doherty is to begin a new search and concurrently look into getting an Interim Principal. Both of these situations are not optimal. We currently have an effective Principal who desires to continue his fruitful work at RMHS. Let's petition to have him stay.
It is evident that the majority of the teachers at the high school are committed, compassionate and have our childrens' best interest at heart. Though we have MANY wonderful, supportive and hardworking teachers and coaches, there are staffing issues/situations at RMHS that must be addressed. Mr. Bakr has been addressing these issues over the past 4 years. There is a group of veteran teachers/coaches who do not have our childrens' best interest in mind. Regardless if he stays or not, we will still be faced with these same issues. Unfortunately, Mr. Bakr, our children and those many good teachers are the ones being penalized rather than those whose actions are inappropriate and disgraceful.
Over the past four years, the Graduation Rate has increased, the Drop Out Rate has decreased and students feel more connected to an adult in the building. Mr. Bakr makes connections with students – he respects them and they respect him.
Please support the person who truly is "for kids".
Please sign this petition to let Superintendent Doherty and the Reading School Committee know that we want Mr. Bakr to stay at RMHS as Principal.
