Michigan is 1 of 3 states that does not have an official State Insect. The Monarch Butterfly is widely recognized throughout the State of Michigan. The Monarch lures many tourist annually to the shores of The Great Lakes to view it's migration. The Monarch is symbolic for Michigan, through hard work and tenacity our state can emerge beautifully. The people of Michigan understand the importance of the preservation of this beautiful creature. And by making it our state's insect, it will help to shed light on that effort.

Michigan is one of three states that does not have an official State Insect. The Monarch Butterfly is widely recognized throughout the State of Michigan, and lures many tourists annually to the shores of The Great Lakes to view its migration. The Monarch's life cycle is symbolic for Michigan: Through hard work and determination, beauty emerges. Conservation efforts are underway across the state of Michigan to protect the Monarch Butterfly and by designating the Monarch as Michigan's official State Insect, those efforts will be strengthened. Yesterday was a big day for the Monarch. SB 812, was introduced by Senator Marleau & Senator Bieda, then referred to the Committee on Government Operations.

We have a bill ! SB 812 , sponsored by Senator Jim Marleau, was filed at the end of the day, Feb. 19th ! It will be read in and referred to a committee on Tuesday.
