To the owners of the Edgewater Marketplace Shopping Center:
We, the loyal patrons of the businesses in the Edgewater Marketplace shopping center request that you resolve the parking issues in the shopping center without removing 80 prime parking spaces during the weekends. Parking spaces on weekends are already a precious commodity, due to people parking and walking across the street to Sojo Spa or walking up to Mitsuwa Japanese Market. Removing 80 self-park spaces will have a serious impact on the area's many consumers who rely on the shopping center for vital goods, and services as well as well as impact the revenue of businesses at Edgewater Marketplace.
To this end, we respectfully request that you reconsider your plan to reserve 80 prime parking spaces for valet parking. We suggest, instead, that you consider an alternative to address the parking shortage, as well as address your desire to monetize the parking problem:
1) Initially, lower the number of valet spaces to 40 and locate them further from the prime retail locations. Parking is plentiful near the old Binghamton location. It is still possible for you to collect revenue for valet parking, but park further from prime parking locations.
2) Enforce existing posted parking regulations, which include towing Other local shopping developments DO tow and it makes a difference. You could accomplish this with surveillance cameras and/or with the support of the valet company. The precious parking in this shopping center should be reserved for those generating revenue to the businesses.
The Edgewater Marketplace serves a vital role in our community and removing 80 prime retail parking spaces will exacerbate an already critical parking crisis. We urge you to seriously consider the impact to this community and amend your plans related to valet parking.
Thank you for your consideration.
