Escuelas Santuario (Sanctuary Schools)

The U.S. Census shows that 5% of Rio Arriba county's population and 11% of Española are foreign born. Many of those immigrants have U.S.-born children who live in our community and attend our schools. The recent increase in arrests and deportations by ICE has a direct impact on the emotional, physical and financial well-being of many students and their families in the Española School District. When a child is not safe, it impedes his/her ability to learn.

During these uncertain times, all children need to be able to feel safe, have their personal information treated as confidential and know that they are not alone. We are in this together because if one person is affected by detention and deportation, we are all effected.

Sign this petition to urge the Española Public School Board to adopt the resolution that would reaffirm the district as a sanctuary for ALL students, including undocumented students and their families.
