Change the Naming Convention of the LEED Certification Levels

  • by: n/a
  • recipient: U.S. Green Building Council
This petition was started as friendly encouragement to the U.S. Green Building Council to replace the current LEED Certification Level names with a more environmentally responsible naming convention.  The current certification levels are Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.  The mining practices of the metals referred to int he certification levels are environmentally destructuve, and a different naming convention should be adopted. Such a change will disconnect the U.S. Green Building Council and it's LEED Accredited Professionals from such environmentally unstustainable materials.  LEED 2009 revisions are perfect timing to accomplish this change.

We are not necessarily determining the new naming convention.  Perhaps 1 thru 4 stars, or 1 thru 4 leafs, this is not as critical.  If you have suggestions, or comments, please visit our blog at http://www.petalsnotmetals.blogspot.com/ .

We also encourage you to include this change as part of your review comments to the new 2009 LEED rating system.  Log into USGBC and then leave feedback here:

Dear U.S. Green Building Council:
In a friendly effort to further improve the LEED process, we the undersigned would like to encourage the U.S.

LEED 2009 revisions provide an opportunity to accomplish this change.  We are not necessarily determining the new naming convention.  Perhaps 1 thru 4 stars, or 1 thru 4 leafs, this is not as critical.
