Petition to Ban Direct to Consumer Advertisting of Prescription Medications

We the people, call on the Congress of the United States of America, to enact legislation, as part of comprehensive health care reform, that will ban advertising for medications that require a prescription from a doctor. Among developed countries, DTC, Direct to Consumer, advertising is currently only legal in New Zealand and the United States. American doctors should not have to compete with these ads. We are inundated with syndromes, diseases, and side effects. We are sick and tired and have had enough of this daily harrassment. The ban should be no different then the current ban on tobacco products. We will accept no less than a complete ban on Direct to Consumer advertising of prescription medications.

We the undersigned believe advertising for prescription medications on our airwaves has reached a level of harrassment. We do not want to be told to talk to our doctor. The bombardment of precription medication commercials is unfair to our nation's doctors. The decisions on prescription medications should be between a patient and their doctor.  This is really a no brainer to us. If tobacco products can be banned then so can prescription medications.

The constant repetition of diseases, conditions, syndromes cannot be making us healthier.

We've had enough. Other countries have bans there is no reason we should not.

Please enact legislation to once and for all ban direct to consumer advertising of prescription medications.
