Within a mile walking for elementary students

How are our children safe walking to school? What if there aren't our kids that walk? What if you can't see your kindergartner walking from home to school? Why aren't there any placements for safety in between the mile marker for children who can't ride the bus? I'm Michelle S and I'm trying to get the school districts to understand that our children safety is very important especially in this day and time we live in. There are so many kids being kidnapped and never are seen again. Alot of those that become "missing" are children that were alone. Leered by someone pretending to be someone nice. How can the school districts feels it's safe for our kids to walk a mile, especially being on the mile marker, with no supervision until they are actually closer to the school crossing guard. Which is usually right by the school. I don't feel as the district takes in effect that some children don't have older siblings, parents with transportation, or any resources that could help make it a safer walk. There are parents that have disabilities that can't walk with their kids to school or even drive. What is the parents to do? Accept that their child MIGHT be safe walking to school? Alot of people don't speak up because they feel like it's not something that could be changed. Well I'm hoping that I will be able to change the school transportation system with this petition. I want to at least show them that this is a subject that people fear for their children safety walking with no supervision. If they aren't going to provide transportation for elementary children within a mile they need security in place for them to be safe. Not just elementary, even middle school. Something's aren't appropriate for children under a certain age. Please help me get my point across.
