Urge the Federal Government for a Moratorium on Duck Hunting Across Australia

The University of NSW's annual aerial bird survey showed a 33-year decline in the abundance of waterbirds in south-eastern Australia.

But surprisingly, the shooting lobby has called for a five-year moratorium on any duck hunting rules, which work to limit catches to preserve bird numbers, according to a report in The Guardian.

In response, the RSPCA says Field and Game Australia’s suggestion is ‘unbelievable’ - especially in light of the drop in water bird populations.

The story reports: "According to the GMA’s briefing document, released in December, the wetland index was at its lowest ever level due to successive years with below-average rainfall and waterbird and game duck populations were at their second lowest levels on record.

The RSPCA, in its response to that briefing, said the combination of factors made this year “one of the worst possible environments on record in which to hold a duck shooting season”.

Duck numbers are falling - they need to be protected! Will you join me in urging the Federal Government to place a 5-year moratorium on duck hunting across Australia to help assist their recovery?
