Joyous Sports Celebration Ends With Police Shooting Family's Gentle, Jersey-Wearing Dog Dead

The New York Knicks basketball team hadn't won an NBA championship in 53 years. So when the team made it into the final game of the whole season - and then won! - people around the country were watching and celebrating.

That was also true for a woman named Marie Marsielle, a former New Yorker who relocated to Los Angeles. She and her family were watching the Knicks' final game, and were beside themselves with joy when the Knicks became champions. Even their dog Jameson, a 2-year-old Saint Bernard, poodle, and golden retriever mix, was wearing a blue-and-orange Knicks shirt. In their excitement, they were cheering and screaming and celebrating - just like many other people.

But that all ended when police showed up and killed their beloved dog Jameson. Sign the petition to demand accountability.

Police received a worried call from a neighbor, who was afraid that the screaming meant someone in the household could be in trouble. Instead of arriving with intentions to de-escalate or perform an actual welfare check, the officers apparently arrived ready to shoot and kill.

Videos and photos taken inside the apartment complex show around 14 officers on the scene, crowding the hallway area. The woman apparently opened the door to her apartment, with her dog appearing next to her. Then, one of the many officers shot the innocent animal dead.

Afterwards, the woman laid on the floor holding her limp dog, sobbing as he died in her arms. Videos show her crying out, saying: "He's such a good dog! We were just so happy. We were just celebrating the Knicks."

Neighbors and community members are demanding accountability. Even that same evening, residents came out of their homes and demanded answers. But so far, no cops have been held responsible. We don't know the names of the officers involved. And we haven't even seen their bodycam footage.
