Over the years Discovery Channel has provided viewers with educational and informative programming which has delighted many viewers with the likes of such shows as: Mythbusters, Moonshiners, and of course Sharkweek as well as many others. However recently the Discovery Channel has begun airing a new show which has neither educational nor intrinsic value, the show in question being Naked and Afraid. I as well as many other viewers am distressed by this departure from the educational values of Discovery Communications for unnecessary sensationalism and prurient interest.
This is made worse by the fact that many families and children enjoy watching Discovery programming (I know I certainly do) but Naked and Afraid is definitely not family friendly.
If all this wasn’t enough the filming of this program has proven dangerous for the individuals being filmed which (aside from having their dignity assaulted) are placed in harm’s way. This cannot be illustrated better then by the recent incident were the female contestant Manu Toiga contracted Dengue fever from an insect bite and almost bled to death. Dengue fever has no cure in its advanced stages and health experts agree that Toiga is lucky to still be alive. Sign this petition to tell the Discovery Channel that its loyal T.V. viewers don’t want this pointless, unsafe, and most inappropriate show to air on our favorite Television Network.
