If This Company Truly Cares About LGBTQ People, It Must Stop Funding Senator Manchin

Goldman Sachs isn't the first name that pops up when you think about progressive and inclusive corporations, but when it comes to the LGBTQ community, Goldman Sachs has actually done a lot to further equality in the workplace.

From efforts to recruit LGBTQ employees to offering sex reassignment surgery in its benefits package to offering an LGBTQ-specific inclusion training course, Goldman Sachs has addressed the importance of diversity with meaningful action. Human Rights Campaign even included the company on its list of Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

That's why we're calling on Goldman Sachs to stop funding Senator Joe Manchin, the only democrat who refused to sign the Equality Act, which would expand protections for LGBTQ people.

Introduced in both the House and Senate, the Equality Act would add LGBTQ protections to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, jury service, education, federal programs and credit. The Equality Act will likely pass the Democrat-controlled House, but without Manchin's vote, this much-needed bill has an uphill battle in the Senate.

Senator Joe Manchin's vote single-handedly put civil rights protections for LGBTQ people at risk. If Goldman Sachs really stands behind LGBT people, it must stop funding Manchin now.
