Tell California: Give Same-Sex Couples Equal Opportunity to Build Families

Even though California has some of the most advanced civil rights protections for the LGBT community in the country, inequalities still exist.

One, under the current law, involves barriers same-sex couples and single women face trying to build families. Women in same-sex partnerships or single women using a known donor do not get equal access to fertility services as those seeking to conceive using a male partner. The former group must use frozen sperm, which reduces the chances of conception.

Equality California (EQCA) has introduced Bill AB 2356 to "ensure that women in same-sex relationships can access fertility services on the same terms as women in opposite- sex relationships."

EQCA says that having a child and building a family is one of the most important and fundamental keys to happiness for many loving couples, and all should have equal access to services that help make this possible. We agree.

Tell the California Legislature to Support AB 2536.

.
We, the undersigned, believe same-sex couples and single women have just as much right to build families as anyone else.

We agree with Equality California that having children and being able to build a family is essential to the happiness of many loving couples, as well as individuals, and it should be considered a basic human right, with all having equal access to achieving this goal.

We are aware of the inequalities in your law that present a barrier to this goal, and we ask you to support amendment AB 2356 and all legislation that promotes equal protection under the law.
