PANDAS/PANS Needs Insurance Coverage Now

It is estimated that approximately 1 in 200 children may have Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) or Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS). PANS/PANDAS is an autoimmune disorder in which a strong stimulant to the immune system such as a viral infection or bacterial infection triggers a misdirected immune response and results in inflammation on a child's brain. In turn, the child quickly begins to exhibit life changing symptoms such as OCD, anxiety, tics, personality changes, decline in math and handwriting abilities, sensory sensitivities, restrictive eating, and more. Untreated, these symptoms will persist or worsen and may become debilitating to the effected child. Without health insurance coverage, the needed treatments are outside of the financial means of many of these families. Currently insurance in Wisconsin does not cover the needed treatment for children with PANS/PANDAS.

Please sign this petition asking the Wisconsin legislature to pass a bill requiring insurance companies to provide coverage for the treatment of PANS/PANDAS.
