We Demand A National Referendum On Digital ID Cards

The government has declared it is introducing national ID cards - whether the public wants this or not. Labour never once mentioned this in the run up to the election; nor did it appear anywhere in the party manifesto.

It is outrageous that there has been no public consultation period whatsoever. ID cards are controversial for many reasons and would have a profound impact on everyone.

The reason given by the government for this scheme makes no sense. Keir Starmer argues that it would 'help fight illegal immigration' but this is clearly nonsense. France has national ID cards and also has a huge problem with illegal immigrants..

It is vital that the public is given a vote on whether or not we will accept the introduction of digital ID.
