Stop Phony Charitable Gifts? Change TAX Code!

  • by: John Wood
  • recipient: United States Congress.

This Tax code, 501-C3 was enable a while back for suppossed support for so-called non-profits;
so that these organizations could receive huge tax breaks yet purportedly give some of their
money donated to the tax-free charity that was created to be the suppossed beneficary of same.
All too often, the actual amount donated is less than .03 cents from each dollar raised in the
form of donation/support.  This was covered in the September 2012 issue of The Christian Science Moniter; and only two charity's even got close to the level of fifty cents from each
dollar donated going to the specific cause.  That said; I feel our congress needs to rewrite this
law so that the new minimum standard for tax libility and for true deduction and beneficary
fulfillment must be at least .35 cents of each donated dollar be the "new standard".  When you
read the article that was published in the CSM, it is very discouraging to find out the real on-the-street average is just .0225.  Yeah folks; only two and a quarter cents out of each donated dollar goes to what the charity says is their beneficary cause.  Pretty remarkedable, that in
these United States; greed has taken over at all levels even the notion of helping others.
I myself, have been poor and homeless for the past two years; but I manage to get one hot
meal each day and a shower each night.  I have met a lot of folks who our doing the same, or
our worse off.  And I know of a few that have squandered the whole notion of special needs, by
working the system to get housing, meals, care, etc.  Though, my most memberable charac-
ter I met, was Dan Lyons; who had been named the "Homeless Advocate" here in northern
Nevada.  Dan, had walked across the U.S. at least six times for disabled vets, homeless vets,
and the working poor.  It did not go unrecognized; but unfortunately Dan passed away last week
from complications with colon cancer.  He will be sorely missed.  So let's get congress working
on changing this tax code to remember Dan by; because Dan really did care about those who
were less fortunate than himself.
