United Airlines Must Protect Its Passengers From Sexual Harassment

Flying is a pain. You're stuck in a small space with strangers who may or may not have good personal hygiene. But at least you assume you're safe, given that planes rarely crash and the TSA is so intense.

While airlines may be keeping guns and bombs off the plane, they're not doing nearly enough to ward off sexual exhibitionists. Several women have complained to United Airlines about men masturbating next to them on flights only to have the airline do nothing to help.

Please sign my petition if you want United Airlines to take a firm stance on this issue and always report these exhibitionist men to police.

One such woman was on a flight to Chicago when the man next to her masturbated for half the flight. She finally told a flight attendant, who promised to call police. But that didn't happen. Instead, United's private security arrested the man and then let him go. Why wouldn't United take this kind of crime seriously? This woman was completely scarred!

Even more startling: "A 2017 survey found that 1 out of 5 flight attendants had received a report of passenger-on-passenger sexual assault during a flight. The findings showed that law enforcement was contacted or met the plane less than half of the time."

That is horrifying! How is it possible that airlines are able to keep operating with such rampant violent crimes happening on board? And this is not the first time a United employee has mishandled such a case. In another case, a woman reported a man masturbating next to her and the flight attendants proceeded to joke about it. The stories go on and on, some including minors.

It's time we held United Airlines accountable for the safety of their passengers. In 2017, they committed to better training for their attendents, but that's obviously not enough. They must do better.

Please join my call to United Airlines to lead the way in making policy changes that require any report of sexual misconduct to be reported to law enforcement.
