Fire Utah County Sheriff for helping his friend to retaliate against BYU student victim of rape

  • by: Bonny Lurth
  • recipient: Utah County Commissioner Greg Graves

This is the story of BYU Student Madi Barney who was raped. Her attacker was bailed out of jail and his friend, Utah County Sheriff Deputy Edwin Randolph, gave BYU copies of the police case file, which is against the law, to retaliate against the victim. By giving these copies of the police case to Birgham Young University, her attacker made sure that the victim was reported to the BYU Honor Code Office and therefore, not allowed to enroll for future classes again. In this way, the rapist with the help of Sheriff Edwin Randolph, made sure to get back at the victim for acausing him of rape.

Prosecutor in the case Craig Johnson charged the rapist and his friend Sheriff Edwin Randolph but the cases were dismissed. Sheriff Edwin Randolph needs to be accountable for abusing his position of power and doing favors to his friends. This practice is against the law and constitutes a conflict of interest. Sheriff Edwin Randolph should not be doing any favors and should not be involved in the case at all because he knows the victim.

We as citizens of good will should take action and speak up against corruption in the police force. We should not tolerate these corrupt practices. It is very important we don't let these men serve our community. Men like Sheriff Edwin Randolph are just bullies in police uniforms. Please, show your support for BYU student Mardi Barney and sign this petition requesting the removal of Sheriff Edwin Randolph.
