Trump: Don't Cut Funding for the United Nations Population Fund!

  • by: Julie S.
  • recipient: President Donald Trump
On April 3rd, the U.S. State Department decided to eliminate funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), an organization that provides health services for the world's most disadvantaged women and girls.

In 150 countries around the world, UNFPA provides services to decrease rates of preventable maternal deaths, works to end female genital mutilation and child marriage, supports reproductive health services, and prevents and addresses violence against women and girls. Since UNFPA began providing services in 1969, the percentage of women who die from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth has been cut in half.

"Cutting [UNFPA's] funding undermines an important resource for women to get urgently needed care, get information and exercise choice. The Trump administration is making a decision that will cost women their lives," said Amanda Klasing, senior women's rights researcher at Human Rights Watch.

The U.S. has been one of UNFPA's largest donors, granting the organization $69 million per year. Budget cuts for this life-saving organization will negatively impact the health of women across the world.

To save the lives of marginalized women and girls, please sign this petition urging the Trump administration to restore funding for UNFPA.

Dear President Trump,

We are deeply concerned regarding the decision by the U.S. State Department to eliminate funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) – an organization that provides health services for the world’s most disadvantaged women and girls.

The U.S. has been one of UNFPA’s largest donors, granting the organization $69 million per year. Budget cuts for this life-saving organization will negatively impact the health of women across the world.

To save the lives of marginalized women and girls, we request that you reverse your decision to cut funding for UNFPA.

Thank you for your consideration.
