Demand That US Officials Recognize Breastfeeding Is Best for Children

At the World Health Assembly held in Geneva earlier this year, the U.S. voted down a resolution in support of breastfeeding, wanting to promote instead the interest of infant formula manufacturers.

When they didn't get what they wanted, those same officials began acting like thugs, threatening other countries.

It's clear what's going on here: the U.S. is acting in response to money, not health.

Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world. When I gave birth to my son, it never occurred to me not to feed him with my milk. There are some new moms who cannot or choose not to breastfeed their children and not all children are raised by their biological mother, but that doesn't mean the U.S. should be pushing formula on everyone inside and outside the country.

Almost 40 years of research have demonstrated that breastfeeding is best for infants, but the U.S. delegation chose to ignore those studies. Using formula doesn't make a mother a failure by any means. But the science just doesn't back up the idea that forumla should be first resort.

If you are outraged by this, please sign my petition demanding that U.S. officials recognize breastfeeding is best for children.
