Tell Hellmann's: Cruel cages are unacceptable everywhere

Nearly a decade ago, Unilever—the parent company of brands like Hellmann's, Knorr, and more—pledged to stop sourcing eggs from hens trapped in cruel cages. But just months ago, Unilever abandoned this promise. That means millions of hens are still trapped in cages so small they can't even spread their wings.

Inside these cages, hens are crammed into filthy wire enclosures, forced to lay eggs in the same space where they eat, sleep, and defecate. These intelligent, curious animals are denied even the most basic natural behaviors like perching or dust bathing. They suffer painful bone fractures and feather loss as their bodies rub raw against wire bars—day after day, with no escape.

While Hellmann's promotes "100% cage-free" on its packaging in North America and Europe, millions of animals are still confined to these horrific cages around the world. A company as massive as Unilever has the resources and the reach to end this cruelty across its entire supply chain. Instead, the company chose to walk back its commitment, condemning millions of hens to continued suffering. Profits from every Unilever brand—Hellmann's, Dove, Magnum, Knorr, Axe, and more—flow back to the same executives who chose to break this promise.

We're calling on Hellmann's to use its influence and demand that Unilever:

  • Reinstate its 100% global cage-free egg commitment across all regions immediately
  • Publish a clear, actionable plan for achieving this goal worldwide

Hellmann's can push for compassionate change. Sign this petition today.

Dear Hellmann's Leadership,

Your parent company, Unilever, recently abandoned its global cage-free commitment—leaving millions of hens suffering in cruel cages.

These hens are trapped in enclosures so small they cannot spread their wings, engage in natural behaviors, or escape the filth and suffering of extreme confinement. There is no excuse for this rollback.

As a leading Unilever brand, Hellmann's has the power and responsibility to push for change from within. As concerned customers, we're demanding that Unilever reinstate its 100% global cage-free egg commitment and publish a transparent plan to achieve it across all markets.

Broken promises to animals are broken promises to customers. We're watching, and we expect Hellmann's to lead the way.

Sincerely,
