Urge Texas Leaders: Support Conservation that Benefits Birds & Communities

Birds are powerful indicators of the health of our lands, waters, and communities. When birds thrive, it signals healthy ecosystems that support clean water, resilient landscapes, outdoor recreation, and the quality of life that Texans value. As lawmakers prepare for the upcoming legislative session, they will consider policies that will shape the future of Texas' natural resources and wildlife.

Audubon Texas supports science-based, bird-friendly policies that conserve and restore habitat, protect water resources, responsibly advance renewable energy development, and ensure sustained investment in the lands and waters that benefit both people and birds. By making conservation a priority, Texas can strengthen its economy, safeguard its natural heritage, and create a healthier future for all Texans.

Encourage your State District Representative and Senator to make Texas bird-friendly!

Texas is one of the most biodiverse states in the nation and supports more than 600 bird species thanks to its unique geography and position along a major migratory flyway. Birds are an important indicator of ecosystem health—and healthy ecosystems support the clean water, productive landscapes, and natural resources that Texans rely on every day.

As you prepare for the legislative session, I encourage you to consider how policy decisions may benefit or impact birds, habitat, and communities across Texas. Policies that strengthen clean water infrastructure, invest in regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices, and encourage responsibly sited renewable energy can help ensure a healthy future for Texas.

I encourage you and your staff to engage with organizations like Audubon Texas as a resource and partner when considering conservation and natural resource policy. Organizations like the National Audubon Society have spent more than 100 years advancing nonpartisan, science-based conservation solutions that support both people and wildlife, and are a good resource for you in this upcoming session. Please support policies that help make Texas a place where birds thrive and people prosper.
