Stand with Chesapeake Bay Farmers!

Farming plays a critical role in local communities, the social fabric of the region, and the water quality of our rivers, streams, and the Bay.

For states to meet the pollution reduction requirements of the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint by 2025, more than 80 percent of the remaining reductions will need to come from agriculture. Some of the most cost-effective ways to reduce nutrient pollution flowing into the Bay are from the farm fields that help feed our region and drive our local economy. Stand with CBF as we work to secure the necessary federal investments to deliver conservation benefits on agricultural lands. These efforts will lead to a healthier environment, economy, and way of life.

Many conservation practices that cost-effectively reduce pollution are also highly effective at reducing greenhouse gases and making farms and our region more resilient to the effects of climate change. Healthier soil, waterways, and farm economies are a legacy that will benefit generations to come.

Over the years, farmers across the watershed have worked to improve their lands by implementing these conservation practices. But demand from the agricultural community to implement these practices on their land far exceeds the available resources. Further, Pennsylvania—the state that has the most work remaining to achieve its Blueprint commitments–has been continuously undercut in federal agricultural conservation funding.

The federal partners in Bay restoration must step up to the plate. Increased federal investments in agricultural conservation practices are critical to reducing pollution, enhancing water quality, securing climate resiliency, and improving farmers bottom lines.
